Role & Responsibilities
The Quality Engineer, reporting to the Head of Quality, will play a key role in ensuring robust quality standards across products, suppliers, and manufacturing processes. The role will lead assigned supplier commodities through launch and into serial production, managing quality issues, supplier development, and part introductions while supporting day-to-day operational requirements. Working cross-functionally, the successful candidate will champion continuous improvement initiatives, embed best practice quality processes, and ensure compliance, reliability, and operational excellence throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities include:
- Review, approve, and implement Engineering Change Notifications (ECN) and Process Change Notifications (PCN), ensuring quality requirements are captured to support manufacturing processes cost-effectively.
- Lead assigned supplier commodities through safe launch activities, ensuring PPAP processes deliver compliant products and documentation prior to shipment.
- Lead quality investigations and resolution activities using industry-standard tools such as 8D and practical problem solving methodologies.
- Complete supplier audits for assigned business-critical commodities in line with scheduled due dates.
- Support initiatives to reduce defects, improve yield, and enhance customer satisfaction using recognised quality tools.
- Participate in cost-of-quality analysis and implement strategies to reduce scrap, rework, and warranty claims.
- Ensure compliance with internal business processes, ISO standards, and marine industry regulations both internally and throughout the supply chain.
- Self-manage personal KPIs, tracking and reporting quality performance across suppliers and internal processes.
- Drive supplier development activities to improve component quality and delivery performance.
- Collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams to ensure the voice of quality is consistently represented while supporting wider business objectives.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence across the organisation.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within Supplier Quality Assurance, Supplier Development, or Quality Engineering in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing supplier quality activities within powertrain suppliers would be highly advantageous.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience within a blue-chip manufacturing or engineering organisation operating automotive-level quality, procurement, and supply chain processes.
- Strong working knowledge of quality systems and tools including PPAP, APQP, 8D/problem solving, and auditing, with demonstrable real-world application.
- Experience working within a Small or Medium Enterprise (SME) environment would be beneficial.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.

Qualifications
- Minimum HND or BEng in an Engineering discipline.
- Continuous Improvement or Lean qualifications preferred.
Additional Information
- Primary location: Coventry, UK, with regular collaboration required with colleagues at the R&D facility in Lowestoft, UK, and suppliers as necessary.
- Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm, however candidate needs to be flexible and be able and willing to work outside normal hours when necessary.
- 5-day working week.
