As a Skipper, you will play a vital role in supporting the testing, validation and development of our innovative propulsion system. Operating company vessels in a safe and professional manner, you will contribute directly to on-water testing activities, helping to ensure that our technology performs reliably in real-world marine environments. Working closely with engineers, technicians and the wider operations team, you will be part of a hands-on organisation where adaptability, teamwork and a strong safety mindset are essential.

Role and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Boat Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe operation of company vessels in support of validation testing activities for Caudwell Marine's Diesel Outboard Drive System. You will also support the day-to-day operation of the workshop and testing facility as required.

Responsibilities include:

• Operate company vessels safely and professionally in support of testing and development programmes.
• Act as Skipper in command, ensuring the safety of all personnel on board at all times.
• Ensure all passengers and crew members are briefed on and adhere to relevant safety procedures and protocols.
• Carry out vessel manoeuvring, docking and close-quarter operations to a high standard.
• Ensure vessels are secured, maintained and ready for operation.
• Comply with all maritime legislation, local regulations and company procedures.
• Support testing activities and assist engineers and technicians during on-water trials where required.
• Maintain accurate operational records and communicate any issues affecting vessel performance or safety.
• Travel to alternative facilities, suppliers or customer locations when required.
• Support workshop and test facility activities as necessary to meet business objectives.
• Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with Caudwell Marine's Health and Safety policies and promote a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe behaviours.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support company objectives.

Skills and experience:

• Proven experience operating and skippering RIBs, tenders or similar vessels of approximately 12 metres in length.
• Strong understanding of vessel operations, marine safety procedures and maritime regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a small, dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• Ability to read and understand technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Experience supporting testing, development or engineering activities would be advantageous.
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.

Qualifications:

Essential:

• Yachtmaster (Commercially Endorsed)
• VHF Short Range Certificate
• First Aid Certificate
• ENG1 Medical Certificate or ML5 Medical
• Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
• Full UK Driving Licence and own transport

Desirable:

• Experience operating high-performance test vessels or marine development craft
• Telehandler Licence
• Marine engineering or technical knowledge

Additional Information:

Location: Lowestoft

Role Type: We are open to considering both contract and permanent candidates for this position. Contract engagements would typically be offered for a minimum period of six months. Salary or contract rates will be discussed with suitable candidates and will be commensurate with qualifications, skills and relevant experience.

Working Pattern:

The role operates within a testing environment and flexibility is essential. Typical operating hours are based around a two-shift system:

• 06:00 – 13:30
• 13:15 – 23:30

Shift patterns may vary depending on testing requirements, weather conditions and business priorities. Occasional weekend working may also be required.
